For some it's considered an unlucky day, for others it's just another Friday and the last day before the weekend. Friday the 13th occurs at least once a year and in Australia some people will hold costume parties and dress up as vampires, witches or monsters. Others will get together with friends and watch horror movies all night. Since Austrailia follows British traditions and therefore doesn't really celebrate Halloween, we use Friday the 13th as a chance to have that creepy, scary fun that North Americans enjoy in October.

So why is Friday the 13th (or Black Friday) considered unlucky? Some researchers believe it's simply the combination of two unlucky events. 13 has long been considered an unlucky number and has it's own phobia - triskaidekaphobia (some buildings don't have a 13th floor because of this supersition). Friday is thought to be an unlucky day to start a new venture or go on a trip. Others believe it's because there were 13 members at the Last Supper, and Jesus was crucified on a Friday.
